Michael Meurer is an internationally published political analyst (sample interview), writer, educator and media producer. He has worked as a consultant and media strategist on US political campaigns at the local, state and national levels since 2003 through his Meurer Group & Associates consultancy with offices in Los Angeles and Denver.
Michael co-founded the 1 million member Courage Campaign, traveling for several years to every area of California organising, training and speaking to progressive grassroots political activists in order to grow membership and increase the organisation’s political capacity.
He also worked as a senior advisor to the California Democratic Party and created the concept of Democracy Bonds that was used by the Democratic National Committee to generate a secure base of low dollar funders for the first time in their history.
Since August, 2016, Michael has been traveling worldwide investigating and learning from new political and civic initiatives in Europe and Latin America that are changing the way civic life is conducted. Reports on Michael’s journey have been published in nine nations and translated into five languages.
The most interesting and effective new projects from Michael’s investigations have become part of the Reimagining Politics curriculum. These innovative initiatives are expanding the range of what is politically possible and have enormous potential to be scaled across borders.
The first Reimagining Politics class was taught by Michael at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellín, Colombia and was featured on CNN. Alumni from this class were selected to represent their university at a model General Assembly of the Organisation of American States in Washington, DC in March, 2016. They also wrote articles analysing the 2016 US presidential election. These articles were translated to English by Michael for US publication at Speakout.
Michael is working on two books that will publish in 2017. The first is titled “iFeudalism and the Theology of Capital.” The book explores the current state of our modern interconnected world as it copes with seemingly intractable problems that are often of ancient origin.
The second is a unique travel book filled with one-of-a-kind interviews and photos from Michael’s ongoing investigative journey through 12 nations and 17 cities in 2016-’17, with more travel to come.
Michael graduated with a BA in Liberal Arts from the University of Montana in Missoula with an emphasis in philosophy and history.
