Changemakers and Hackers

I was invited to the “<hello social world/> Changemaker” event in mid-October hello_social_world_balloonsat the Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey (Monterrey Institute of Technology, México’s MIT or Caltech). The event was sponsored by Ashoka and the Monterrey Institute’s prestigious business school under the theme “Build a Better World,” a slogan that was printed on T-shirts given to all participants. My friend Ana Paula of Guadalajara was a featured speaker, and my friend Antonio of Tuxtla, Chiapas was a judge in the weekend “hackathon.”

build_a_better_world_teamAna Paula gave a presentation to a crowd of about 35 students on an Aurora Global.mx project focused on tech transfer to vulnerable communities. Antonio, who runs the innovative Hacking Diem project in Chiapas, reported that the winning team in the hackathon created a new software program to improve the efficiency of milk distribution from food banks to communities in need. The program reduces delivery times and milk spoilage while increasing overall program efficiency and lowering costs!

Ana Paula and Antonio are the kinds of changemakers that we want to partner with and support.
